Quick and Easy Mongolian Beef Recipe

Mongolian Beef is a delicious and savory dish, offering a perfect blend of tender beef and a sweet-savory sauce. This recipe provides a simple way to recreate this restaurant favorite right at home.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced across the grain
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the beef: Toss the sliced flank steak with cornstarch ensuring each piece is well coated. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to marinate and absorb the cornstarch.
  2. Make the sauce: In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, water, and brown sugar until fully combined.
  3. Cook the aromatics: Heat 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir fry until fragrant, approximately 1-2 minutes.
  4. Brown the beef: Increase the heat to high and add the additional 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add the beef to the skillet in a single layer, allowing it to sear and brown without stirring for about 1-2 minutes. Flip the beef and continue to cook until nearly done, about another 1-2 minutes.
  5. Combine and simmer: Pour the prepared sauce over the beef. Stir well to combine and reduce the heat to medium-low. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the sauce is thickened and the beef is cooked through.
  6. Garnish and serve: Remove from heat, and stir in green onions. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.

Serving Suggestions:

Mongolian Beef pairs well with a variety of sides such as steamed broccoli, sautéed bell peppers, or a fresh cucumber salad. For a heartier meal, accompany it with cooked rice or warm noodles to soak up the delicious sauce.

Enjoy your homemade Mongolian Beef, a dish sure to satisfy those restaurant-style Asian cuisine cravings from the comfort of your kitchen!
