Free Crochet Pattern: Round Ringlet Rug

Round Ringlet Rug

I made this rug to add little pops of aqua and green and some softness to a room. This rug is 31 inches in diameter, but feel free to add or subtract more rings to make it larger or smaller.

Like the spotted owl pot holder I recently posted, it is also made with three strands of yarn, making it super durable and cushiony.

Three Strands

Supplies:

  • 6 skeins Impeccable or Vanna’s Choice yarn in white
  • 3 skeins Impeccable yarn in Soft Fern
  • 3 skeins Vanna’s Choice yarn in Aqua
  • N/9mm size crochet hook

Pattern:

The rug is made in a spiral, so use a marker or piece of yarn to mark the beginning of each row.

Starting with 3 strands of white, ch 2.

Row 1: sc 6 in first ch (6) Row 2: complete the circle by sc 2 in first sc, then sc 2 in each st all the way around (12) Row 3: * sc 2, sc 1, repeat from * until the end of the row (18) Row 4: sc 1, * sc 2, sc 1, sc 1, repeat from * until the end of the row (24)

Did you notice that I didn’t start with 2 sc’s at the beginning of the last row? That’s because if you start every row with 2 sc’s, your rug will look more hexagonal than round.

Continue in the same pattern, adding 1 sc to each row.

At row 20, switch to Fern Green, and then switch back to white at row 21.

At row 26, switch to Aqua, and then switch back to white at row 27.

At row 32, switch to Fern Green, and then switch to Aqua for five rows, and finish off (row 38) with Aqua.

Tuck in all loose ends to complete!

Ringlet Rug

Note: it’s a little difficult to crochet circular rugs that a) don’t look like bowls, b) don’t buckle around the edges, or c) don’t look like hexagons, and I tried to get the best of all worlds here. However I realize there are still some edgy parts to this rug, and if you’d like a smoother look, try using one color instead and they go virtually unnoticed. I plan on experimenting with more rug designs in the future and will post them here if they turn out nice.
