The simple act of using citrus based essential oils can help increase energy and improve mental focus.
Essential oils from citrus fruits such as grapefruit, orange, and tangerines have properties that naturally elevate mood and energy. The energetic frequency or “notes” as it is sometimes called in aromatherapy, of citrus blends invigorates energy to:
* Improve concentration especially on mental tasks that are tedious.
* Improve emotional mood and lifts one from depression.
* Increase states of wakefulness and physical vibrancy.
A simple way to enjoy this natural lift is to place a tissue in your car that has citrus essential oils. Then, when you drive during your day, you naturally invigorate your energy. Many of my clients who are long haul truck drivers use this technique to stay awake when delivering late night loads, instead of loading up on caffeine.
Some health food stores sell car diffusers that can be plugged into lighters. This style of diffusion gives a more intense effect, so make sure that any passengers are not sensitive to scents or they might get headaches.
Apply to Acupuncture Points
Other ways to increase energy with essential oils is diluting the oils with a carrier oil such as safflower or almond oil and apply the oils to acupuncture points for energy such as St.36, located on the outer portion of the leg just below the knee.
However, take care not to put citrus oils on areas of skin that will be exposed to the sun, as citrus oils can increase photosensitivity and can result in rashes or burns on the skin when exposed to sunlight.
At home, you can also diffuse citrus oils with traditional candle or electric diffusers. In more public places, simply carry a tissue soaked in essential oils in a plastic sealed bag and sniff occasionally.
This keeps the scent from permeating the air to impact others who may not wish to experience scents.
Another way to integrate the use of citrus essential oils is to add a few 10 drops of oil to 16 oz of water in a spray bottle, shake well and spritz the air for a natural way to freshen your space.
Most of the citrus oils also perform double duty by acting as cleansing agents in addition to improving energy levels and mood.
When combined with natural ingredients such as vinegar and water, citrus oils can replace many of the chemical-based cleansers in your home.
Thus, your home becomes clean and sparkling, while you also increase energy and lift your spirits.
Recipe for Natural Cleanser:
1 16 oz spray bottle
Fill the bottle with 8 ounces of distilled vinegar, 8 ounces of water, and 20 drops of orange oil.
You may also wish to add 4 drops of thyme, 5 drops of rosemary, and 3 drops of clove to help mask the odor of the vinegar.
Shake well and use for cleansing bathroom, kitchen and mirrors.Keep out of the reach of pets and children as some essential oils are toxic to ingest and will create digestive upset.
