No-Bake Banana Pudding Recipe

Banana Pudding: Creamy layers of vanilla pudding, sliced bananas, and soft wafers, topped with whipped cream, a Southern dessert staple. | Syed Ibad RM

This classic dessert is a no-bake version that’s just as creamy, dreamy, and soul-satisfying as the original.

Ingredients (Serves 6-8)

  • 1 (5 oz) package instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (12 oz) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 4-5 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 (12 oz) package vanilla wafers

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pudding: In a large bowl, whisk together the vanilla pudding mix and cold milk until smooth. Let it sit for 5 minutes to thicken.
  2. Create the creamy base: In another bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Gradually mix in the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract. Fold in 1 cup of the whipped topping.
  3. Combine the mixtures: Gently fold the cream cheese mixture into the pudding until well blended.
  4. Layer the magic:
    • Line the bottom of a 9×13 inch dish with a layer of vanilla wafers.
    • Top with a layer of sliced bananas.
    • Pour half of the pudding mixture over the bananas.
    • Repeat the layers, ending with the pudding mixture on top.
  5. Chill and set: Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  6. Add the finishing touch: Before serving, spread the remaining whipped topping over the pudding and garnish with crushed vanilla wafers.

Tips for Success

  • Use ripe, but not overripe bananas for the best flavor and texture.
  • Dip banana slices in lemon juice to prevent browning if you’re not serving immediately.
  • For an extra indulgent twist, drizzle each layer with a bit of caramel sauce.
