The first trailer for Antoine Fuqua’s Magnificent Seven was released earlier this week. This tale of seven outlaws banding together to defend a town from attacks is a remake of the classic epic western of the same name. It has a star studded cast and appears to be very different, stylistically, from the 1960 version.
The 1960 version was a western retelling of Akira Kirosawa’s classic Seven Samurai, and between the two revered versions that the new one has to compete with, I imagine that fans of the classics will enter theaters with skepticism while new audiences will be more likely to embrace to remake.
