Eight buildings designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright have been nominated to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. If accepted, the structures, titled “The 20th-Century Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright,” would sit amongst some of the most notable buildings in the world, including the Taj Mahal,
Cologne Cathedral, Himeji Castle, and Sydney Opera House. The Wright sites would be the first representatives of American modern architecture to make the list.

The eight buildings were submitted by the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy.

Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Herbert and Katherine Jacobs First House”, commonly referred to as “Jacobs I”, was constructed in 1937 and is considered to be the first Usonian home. Herbert Jacobs, challenged Wright to design and build a home for $5,000 (equivalent to $85,116 in 2017). Wright designed an L-shaped structure with an open floor plan and two bedrooms. This home is located at 441 Toepfer Avenue on the west side of Madison. A multi-year restoration project began in 1983, restoring the house to its 1937 appearance and updating worn and inefficient building systems. . . . . #tbt #throwbackthursday #madison #wisconsin #madisonwi #house #franklloydwright #architecture #national #historic #landmark #modern #design #usonian #home #love #realtyexecutives #realestate #realtorlife
