In this movie, the Addams family faces trouble when a greedy mother/son duo team up to steal their fortune. Rotten Tomatoes rates this movie a 5.6/10, stating “The movie is peppered with amusing sight gags and one-liners, but the disjointed script doesn’t cohere into a successful whole.” However, if you are looking for a light comedy with a hint of darkness to get you into the Halloween spirit this movie may be for you!
The Corpse Bride | PG | Comedy /Action & Adventure / Animation
The Corpse Bride was directed by Tim Burton and highlights his traditional animation style of ill-proportioned characters who tend to take on a more frightening look. The movie tells the story of Victor (voiced by Johnny Depp) who finds himself in an arranged marriage with Victoria (voiced by Emily Watson). Victor gets himself in trouble when he places Victoria’s wedding band on the finger of the Corpse Bride (voiced by Helena B. Carter), a skeletal figure that takes him to a dark, enchanted world where they are now married. Victor must find his way out and back to his true love, Victoria! Rotten Tomatoes rates this movie a 7.2/10, stating “As can be expected from a Tim Burton movie, Corpse Bride is whimsically macabre, visually imaginative, and emotionally bittersweet.”
Silence of the Lambs | R | Mystery & Suspense / Horror
This is an Oscar award winning horror movie that is sure to give you a fright! The movie follows the story of Clarice Starling (played by Jody Foster), a top student of the FBI training academy who lands herself a special assignment of investigating a vicious murderer named Buffalo Bill. To do so, she finds herself interviewing Hannibal Lecter, a brilliant psychiatrist and violent psychopath responsible for various acts of murder and cannibalism. His information comes with a price and she finds herself in compromising positions. This movie was highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 8.5/10, claiming that “ Director Jonathan Demme’s smart, taut thriller teeters on the edge between psychological study and all-out horror, and benefits greatly from stellar performances by Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster.”
