Today is the birthday of the beloved, affable country western legend, Roger Miller, born on this day in Fort Worth, Texas. Miller grew up plowing the land and picking cotton on a farm in Erick, Oklahoma. Erick is located on Oklahoma’s Route 66 and has a Roger Miller Museum in his honor, as well as a street named for him, Roger Miller Boulevard.
Some of his best known songs are “King of the Road,” “Dang Me,” “Chug-a-Lug,” “Little Green Apples,” “You Can’t Rollerskate in a Buffalo Herd,” and three songs for Disney’s animated film Robin Hood. Miller passed away on October 25, 1992 in Los Angeles, California.
