This week my family and I are on vacation in sunny Southern California. We have quite a bit of family here, so luckily we come often. On this trip we decided to have a fun-filled day at DryTown Waterpark in Palmdale, CA.
Let me start by telling you only one day before this trip was the first time Coraline even put her toes in a pool. She has not been formally taught to swim yet and this Waterpark was perfect for her! The picture above is her enjoying one of the many slides at the park.
DryTown has a wonderful kids area called Little Miner’s Camp. It includes slides of all kinds, stairs, netting, lots of hoses and splash areas in only a few inches of water. They also make sure to provide lots of life jackets for the littles! I had a lot of fun lounging in the crystal clear warm water.
Children must be at least 36″ tall to use Little Miner’s Camp and be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older. In addition to providing lots of life jackets, they have many life guards on duty as well.
Another fun feature for adults and kiddos at DryTown Waterpark is Big Rock River. This is known to our family as “the lazy river”. DryTown provides floaties for free and the river pushes you along around the Waterpark with little to no effort! We tried this one out for a few times around, but it was a bit too deep and scary for my three year old. She mainly hung on tight to me and wanted to go back to the Little Miner’s Camp as quickly as possible.
To enjoy Big Rock River, children under 42″ must be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older on a one-to-one ratio and must remain within arm’s reach at all times. Thankfully, DryTown seems strict on their policies which is great for everyone’s safety and enjoyment.
They have lots of big slides for adults and older kids too! I didn’t get to experience those because I was watching Coraline, but my husband had quite a blast going down many of them. His favorite by far was the Devil’s Punchbowl! Drytown provides single or double intertubes at no extra charge for their rides. At the top of the tower you’ll shoot down an enclosed tube into the Devil’s Punch Bowl. Eric describes it as a deep fall within a “giant toilet bowl” where you’ll swirl around at least three times then down a hole to another slide and finally back into the pool. Guests must be 48″ tall to ride Devil’s Punch Bowl, Rattler’s Revenge, and Wildcatter.
Dusty’s Mineshaft Racer is another slide my husband enjoyed. Eric said it feels the fastest of the slides he tried and you ride down on a flat yoga mat with handles. Guests must be 42″ tall to ride Dusty’s Mineshaft Racer.
Overall my family LOVED Drytown Waterpark. The Little Miner’s Camp is excellent for small children. The Big Rock River is great for lazy floating and the slides are perfect for thrill-seekers. I also like the fact they provide all the intertubes and life jackets for free. Unfortunately, you can’t bring your own food into the park but they do have a snack shack with all kinds of food including nachos, fries and chicken strips. We had so much fun yesterday, we’re already planning our return trip next year!
